  synopsis

Neala Clarke is a woman of her word, when she gives you it, expect her to deliver. Neala gave her niece Charli her word that she would get her a doll for Christmas. Never mind that there is only one week until Christmas and everywhere that stocked toys is practically sold out. Neala gave her word that she would get that doll for Charli, so she will move mountains to make it happen. Darcy Hart is a people pleaser, when he is asked last minute for a doll by his adorable six year old nephew Dustin, he of course, says yes. However, Darcy faces a dilemma, the particular doll he needs is sold out everywhere. Darcy makes one last attempt to get the doll at a local toy store, and finds out they have only one left in stock, but he also finds out he is not the only person interested in claiming the doll. Neala and Darcy go way back, playing in each other’s play pens kind of way back. They are not friends, more like mortal enemies, and both of them wanting a single doll was the start of a series of events that no one could have predicted, not even Father Christmas himself.

excerpt

It all happened in slow motion. Darcy was shouting at me from inside of the tunnel one minute, and the next his upper body disappeared as the roof of the snow tunnel collapsed in on top of him. It literally collapsed on top of him and now he wasn't moving. At all. For at least twenty seconds I did nothing but stare at him then my senses kicked into overdrive. "Darcy!" I screamed, and threw my blanket off my body as I rushed over to him. I licked my lips and stared down at his body with wide eyes, and shaking limbs. My heart was slamming into my chest, and each pulse got louder and louder. I could hear each beat my heart took and my ears rang with the noise. "Darcy!" I shouted hoping he would make a noise from under the snow or at least move his legs. Nothing. Not a sound or kick from him. I really started to worry then, the thought of him drowning crossed my mind. I mean, snow was made of water and he was buried under the snow, which meant he was technically under water right now. Fuck. I had to save him. I dropped my candle to the ground and ignored it as the glass bowl that encased the candle smashed causing it to blow out. It was darker now, but the rest of the candles along the hallway were still lit so I could see pretty well. "Darcy, don't worry!" I shouted. "I'm gonna get you out of there!" I dropped to my knees and began to scoop handfuls of snow off his body. I threw the snow onto the pile Darcy created while digging the tunnel off to my right, but I had to stop because my hands hurt with the cold. I instead moved to Darcy legs and gripped onto them and pulled. I pulled with all of my might and the idiot's body only slightly moved. "Move!" I shouted and pulled at his legs again. I held onto Darcy with every fibre of strength I had and pulled again, and by the grace of God, his body moved. It actually moved. I was strong! "Yes!" I cheered. I scrambled up to Darcy's back when his shoulders became visible. I placed my hands on both of them and pulled as hard as physically possible, the wet floor under Darcy made him slide which made things so much easier for me and my arms. "You're out!" I cheered. Darcy was gasping for air so I rolled him over so he could suck in as much air as he needed. His eyes were closed, but his body was shaking. I instinctively placed my hands on his arms, directly on his biceps. His firm biceps. Stop it. I began to rub up and down very fast hoping to generate some heat for Darcy to ease his shivering. All the rubbing was pointless though, unless I got him up off the cold wet floor he would just get sick. "Darcy, stand up," I said. He didn't move, nor did he reply to me. That worried me. I looked to Darcy's face and found his eyes were still closed. I looked down to his chest and saw it was moving up and down which relaxed me immensely. "Darcy!" I said loudly, shaking him. "Darcy!" Einstein called from the kitchen. I screeched, "Shut up, Einstein!" Stupid bloody bird. I looked back down to Darcy when I thought I heard him chuckle, but I was mistaken because he was motionless with his eyes still closed. This wouldn't do, I had to wake him up because we'd be stuck in this house if he didn't fix the tunnel and continue to dig so we could get out of here. Was that selfish? "Darcy!" I shouted and shook him, hard. He groaned and it caused my pulse to spike. "Neala?" he croaked. He was alive! "Yes, Darcy, it's Neala. I'm here. It's okay, I saved you." I was so proud of myself for saving him, too. "Neala," he gasped my name again, and this time it was followed by a cough. I frowned down at him. Why was he coughing? "Are you okay?" I asked, genuinely concerned for his well being. Darcy coughed again. "I don't think so... everything is fading." Oh, my God. Fading? As in fading to black? "Don't you die and leave me here alone!" I snapped at him. I may have still hated him close to ninety percent, but I didn't want him to die... I also didn't want to be left on my own with just Einstein for company. "I'm... I'm dying... Neala." Oh, no. "You can't be, you weren't under the snow for that long- Darcy!" I screeched and shook him when he started to go limp. "Neala," he gasped. "Come closer." I couldn't believe what was happening. This was not how things were supposed to end, we were supposed to get out of here... together. "I'm here, Darcy," I said and swallowed back a sob that wanted to escape. Darcy's breathing slowed. "I can see the light," he whispered. I blinked back tears. "Go to the light, Darcy." Darcy gasped for breath, then all of sudden everything stopped. His movement. His breathing. His everything. Oh, no. "Darcy?" I whispered. Nothing. Oh, my God. "Please don't be dead," I said then released the sob that was dying to be let out. I stared down at Darcy's face, and I couldn't believe what just happened. He died in my arms. What was I going to do? I never even told him I was sorry for giving him the runs, or for all the other times I was a bitch to him, and now I would never get the chance. I felt like dirt. I began to cry, but Darcy's body suddenly twitched then he inhaled sharply, and loudly. I blinked then widened my eyes in shock. "Darcy?" I whispered. Darcy blinked opened his big brown eyes. He was alive! "Am I in Heaven?" he asked. He thought he was dead! Darcy blinked his eyes a couple of times then he flicked his eyes to mine and he stared at me for a long moment before he sighed. "Nope, not Heaven. This must be Hell if you're here," he said, his face was as serious as if he just told me someone had a heart attack. I stared down at him then narrowed my eyes. Ex-fucking-cuse me? "What?" I asked, completely confused. Darcy looked at me then burst out laughing. Laughing! I gasped and dropped him to the floor. He grunted in pain, but continued to laugh. That... that fucking bastard! He played me. "You joked about dying?" I screeched. Who does that?

Behind the Stars
By Leigh Talbert Moore

The guards moved among us, placing dentist-office Dixie cups of what looked like water in front of everyone. A separate guard came to where I sat on the floor, clutching my knees. She lightly took my arm. “Please return to the table.” Her voice was smooth. “You’ve had a shock. Have some water.” I wasn’t about to drink anything they gave us. It was Day One all over again, only this time, it was Guyana. We were all being served the Kool-Aid. Next stop, mass graves. Stupidly, my friends and fellow prisoners had no such qualms. Didn’t anybody watch the History channel? I stared as they all took shaky sips without hesitation. “Just take a small sip.” The female guard was still with me. “It’ll calm you.” My throat constricted. My whole body was on revolt. Shaking my head, I didn’t meet her eyes. I only stared at the white cup of water. Braxton was at my side, and he drained his. What the hell made him do that? Did he want to die? Seconds ticked past and nothing happened. Nobody passed out. Nobody did anything strange—except forget what we’d just witnessed here. Braxton picked up his fork to finish his lunch. They all did. Like one of us had not just been taken out “swiftly and finally.” Only he had, and I was reeling from the shock.

I have certain tastes, certain sexual proclivities. My cock is a bit more discriminatory than most. And training a virgin takes finesse and patience – both of which I lack.

Sophie Evans has been backed into a corner. From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Kendall Ryan, comes the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series.

Pace Drake loves sex. He knows where get it, what to say, what to do, and he makes no apologies for satisfying his needs. But when he meets single mom, Kylie Sloan, he's enthralled by her, and begins to question his standard operating procedure. After all, there's no chase, no mystery when banging a woman in a nightclub bathroom. Kylie's depth and determination make the sloppy, drunken hookups that fill his weekends seem empty and shallow. She's the opposite of the desperate, clingy women he's used to. She doesn’t want or need anyone to take care of her and that only makes him want to care for her more.

Kylie's trust in men has vanished. The last guy she was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with her uterus and left her with a baby to raise. Now her infant son is the only man she has time for, even if she misses sex and intimacy more than she'd ever admit. Opening her heart up to a younger man who's best known for no-strings-attached sex and his casual lifestyle is probably the worst idea she's ever had. But Pace wants to prove to her there are still a few good guys left, and watching the sweet way he interacts with her baby makes her want to try…but she can really trust that his days of hitting it and quitting it are in his past?

Filthy Beautiful Lust is the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series, however it can be read as a standalone novel (no cliffhanger). To understand the full growth and development of the characters, it is recommended that you begin with book 1, Filthy Beautiful Lies.

A free-spirited woman…

Eccentric interior designer Mirelle Brasseur is tired of relationships with handsome, charming, fickle men—in other words men just like the father who abandoned her. She’s fun and funky, but takes her career seriously. She’s not about to let a man derail her dreams or wound her heart again.

His newest restaurant is going to be the best, so he hires Mirelle to help him design it.

Turn up the heat…

Soon it isn’t just the food sizzling in the kitchen, in spite of Mirelle’s misgivings, as the attraction between the chef and the designer heats up. It will take more than one date-one night for them to overcome their pasts and find a way to cook up a sweet future together.

How Sweet It Is

Mirelle turned her face up to the pale morning sun, then checked out the produce arranged on tables. The abundance of colors and shapes and textures was almost overwhelming. She studied baskets of avocadoes. Who knew there were so many different kinds? Some had bumpy black skins, others were shiny and green. Another stand had bins of salad greens—ruffly lettuces, mustard greens, chard with white and red and bright yellow stems, kales and spinach.
“Oh my.” She let out a sigh of pleasure.
“Look at these berries.” Sofi tugged her arm.
“Albion strawberries.” The stocky dark-haired man behind the table gave them a friendly smile. “They taste much better than the flavorless red lumps of cardboard at the supermarket. Try one.” He offered them a small basket. Mirelle picked up a fat red berry and took a bite.
Her eyes widened as the strawberry nectar filled her mouth. “Oh my god. This is unbelievable. I have to have some of these.”
“No,” Sofi hissed. “Remember?”
“We usually sell out,” the man said.
“I’m buying them now, I don’t care about your plan.” Mirelle dug into her purse.
“Mirelle.” The deep male voice uttering her name startled her. She turned around to see Bradan Hunt standing behind her. His hands were shoved into the front pockets of a pair of faded jeans, his black jacket only half-zipped over a white T-shirt that stretched across his flat abs and chest. He gave her a slow, sexy grin, a flash of white teeth, the corners of his eyes crinkling in that attractive way. She blinked at him.
“Hi,” he said. “Buying strawberries?”
She nodded, pulling out her wallet. “Er. Yes. Hi.” She paid the man and he put a basket of strawberries into the cloth shopping bag she’d brought along. “What are you doing here?”
“What do you think?” He lifted one dark eyebrow. “Buying food. I cook, you know.”
She couldn’t help the smile that tugged at her lips. “Oh yeah, that’s right.” They smiled at each other as moments accumulated and wings fluttered in her tummy. Her body began to tingle, her gaze fastened to his.
She’d dreamt those chef fantasies again all night, hot sweaty dreams about a sexy chef laying her out on the counter and sampling her body in very delicious ways. And this morning, she’d been annoyed. Annoyed at him for invading her fantasies like that. Annoyed at him for being so damn good with the animals and so helpful at the shelter. Annoyed at him giving up on his offer to go out for coffee so easily. Annoyed at herself for being annoyed about that, because she didn’t want to go out for coffee with him. She wanted him to leave her alone.
But now here he was, standing in front of her, his dark hair hanging over his forehead, his strong jaw dark with that scruff of beard, smiling at her, and her annoyance faded away like morning fog in the sun, replace by tingling awareness.
“Ahem.”
Mirelle turned and blinked at Sofi. “Oh. Sofi, this is Bradan Hunt. I mentioned the new project I have, designing his new restaurant.”
“Oh yes, I think you did mention it,” Sofi said, extending hand to Bradan. Mirelle resisted the urge to grin. “Nice to meet you.” Her usual calm and cool manner gave no hint of all the things Mirelle had said to her about Bradan on the phone the other night.
“Nice to meet you, Sofi. So you ladies are out shopping for food, hmm? What have you seen that’s interesting?”
“You should be the one telling us.”
“We just got here,” Sofi added. “We want to look at everything before we buy. Or at least, I want to.” She cast a pointed glance at Mirelle’s shopping bag.
Mirelle clutched the bag tighter. “I wanted these strawberries. I wasn’t taking a chance on them selling out.”
“Those are awesome strawberries for sure,” Bradan said gravely. “Good decision. Let’s look more.”
And somehow he ended up accompanying them through the market. He purchased large quantities of things, the sellers stowing them in plastic bins for him to pick up later. He held up baby zucchinis with the golden blossoms attached. “For stuffing. And look at these potatoes.” He studied them and discussed them at length with the seller—baby purple potatoes that were apparently Russian Blue, little red ones called Chieftains and Russian banana fingerlings.
“And these are sweet potatoes,” the man at the stand said. “Japanese white and Okinawan purple.”
“Sweet potatoes,” Bradan murmured. “I have to have some of those.”
“Potatoes,” Sofi whispered to Mirelle. “Who knew they could be so sexy.”
Mirelle wanted to groan. Even the way he breathed was sexy.
